My "catch-up" story...
Posted On: 04/27/2020 13:05:12

A message to my friends is long overdue and I decided to write an “update” blog. Where has the time gone? I do drop by almost every day to pick up my “mail” and reply where necessary, but then off I go to other areas of interest on the Internet. Like what, you ask? If you have been 'messaging' with me, you may already know some of my story.

I love to read, and even though I had cataract surgery this past year, it didn’t turn out the way it was expected, so I still read on my tablet or computer. I like to learn new things, most especially computer related. However, I’m beginning to realize that I am often relearning something that I used to know how to do, but either my software is too old since upgrading my computer to Windows 10, or “Use It or Lose It!” is a quote that is certainly my case. I have a passion for photography, and have been enjoying our “old” photo albums, and have been re-learning how to restore damaged and faded vintage family photo treasures. I am so thankful for TC & EB and their newsletter that was my original “teacher” and now my information source is their daily Cloudeight InfoAve Daily and their Cloudeight InfoAve Weekly newsletter! “Altara”, an active Staff member, has also been very helpful and a great source of information.

I hope that you have had a great weekend, even in our “new reality”. I hope you have found new and interesting things to do with your time. Our self-imposed isolation (because of my hubby’s health challenges last year) has given us lots of things to be thankful for … continued good health, great country air, and a loving family who frequently check up on us. Hubby is able to spend hours in his beloved ‘Shop’. He tells me that he has many projects… fix things, paint things, rearrange things, trash things… and when he works too hard on those projects, he has the occasional nap in his favorite “shop” chair.

What fills my time? I do a bit of cooking, a bit of cleaning, some walking around our yard… and a lot of time on my computer! My computer gives me an endless supply of music, books to read, free communication tools to keep in touch with family and friends internationally. I’ve recently learned to shop online for groceries and then drove to town to pick up my order, all without ever getting out of our vehicle. I even experienced ‘curb-side’ service from the ‘Easter Bunny’ who brought our prescriptions to us in the parking lot. The pharmacist decided to “deliver with a smile” and hopefully bring a smile to the faces of the customers too. She succeeded!

Most of these experiences have also caused personal spiritual reflections. Is our Creator God allowing this pandemic for His holy purpose? God is never the author of evil; GOD IS LOVE! Has the events of this month diminished my faith in my Heavenly Father? Not a bit; I have a calmness that even surprises me. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been reminded through songs and reading Scripture to take “one day at a time”, and nothing is gained by worrying over something of which we have no control. And what about praying? If it seems hard to do, we need to be reminded that prayer is like a conversation with God, our Heavenly Father. He’s not concerned about “formal words” learned recitation; He knows even our unspoken thoughts!

Remember… One Day At A Time!

Dear Mona!

Thank you so much for this Mona, So great to hear from   you too. It seems like I get so very busy getting breakfast, dinner and then just working around and doing my Woodston Free Press each week. Plus some walking around we have a wonderful walking path where we live so if the weather is permitting we often go walking for about 45 minutes or more.  And in the morning we have been doing some Bible reading and study on God's word. Which is nice and prayers. And keeping our immune systems up with extra supplements. And then getting our mask and gloves on to go shopping mostly grocery shopping. And cleaning boy it seems I keep busy either way.  but we miss going to church and seeing friends in person. I have been able to talk to my grandchildren Julian, Jevelle and Jasmine via messenger so we get to see each other and that is fun. They often call which is great. They are doing their homework from home. Julian has a job he is going to work with his dad in Lebanon New Hampshire they live in Claremont about 20 or so miles away. However his dad takes Julian to Toaco Bell where he is the drive through fellow. He really seems to enjoy it. And it give Julian and his Dad some good time to get to know each other. Shane my son is the GM for Tire Warehouse up there. But hard to keep help because he had to lay off a few for a while. Now some at least one guy between his stimulas check and his Unemployement is now getting more money than he was when he was working. Problem is all those things are going to dry up and then what. Shane told him he had 2 weeks to make up his mind after that he had no job if he didn't decide to come back to work now that they can.  Julian was supposed to have the Lead roll in a school musical this May they are still hoping they can put it on this summer. So they keep working on it using messenger. So that is all good. The school gave Julian and Jasmine computers but not Jevelle. Julian and Jevelle are both in high school so I guess they thought they could share one. Jasmine is in 8th grade. And loves Books she has quite a book collections already. Jevelle is also writing a book in this free time. She is doing right well with it. She is just now 15 years old but got it written when she was 14 and just has to type it up. When she gets it typed up she sends it to me. Then I check it out suggest corrections if need be and then publish in the WFP. So now that is what we have been doing. Except to go buy groceries and some shopping most everything is simular to what it was only have to put face masks on and vinyl gloves on... only thing we don't have friends over like we did during the summer and winter until this all hit. But it will get better. We watch our minister on TV hooking my computer up to the TV so that makes it very nice. He keeps up too by contacting us on the phone from time to time. A good old fashioned preacher which I love except he has modern music but I mean he keeps in contact with the people that come to his church. And has very very good sermons. Well Bob and I think so anyway. Well dear Mona so great to hear from thank you for  your blog. It was so wonderfully written and so full of encouragement. Thank you a million. Gods blessings, Love and hugs to you. Connie

Your blog reminds me of how much I have forgotten. I frequently go to do something on my computer and can't remember how to. If I could just get started I'm sure things were't beyond my ability a few years ago. In my case it's old age and poor eyesight, at least that's my excuse. Being in jail due to the virus creates challenges, and one day at  time is the best we can do, each of us in our own way.

Barb, I'm so glad for your comment! Even in "old age", it reminds me that there are many, many who never get to enjoy that many years. One day at a time... sure helps not beeing worried about tomorrow. I'm getting tired of reading and talking about our 'new reality'... just want to remind myself that "... it is, what it is!" I'm sure you could write a blog on a totally different topic (as you have done), and I look forward to reading it!

I enjoyed your catch-up story, Mona. Thanks for sharing!  Yes indeed, we are all so fortunate to live in a day and age with advanced technology. Can you even imagine quarantine without all the modern day conveniences? I saw a report recently on a 106 year old survivor of the 1918 Spanish influenza. She is now recovering from COVID-19. What a blessing and what a story she has to tell! She survived not one but two pandemics.

I agree that home delivery of supplies is wonderful. Sure has spoiled me as well.  Last week the Chicken Salad Chick restaurant 30 miles away from me did a delivery to a small community near me so I was able to pick up some food. That was a blessing as I'm tired of my own cooking. Ha ha. not really but it was nice.

I love reading about silver lining of this situation, how the times are bringing out the best in people. It goes to show human nature is to help their fellow man.  Our church recently began online streaming of Sunday services as well and it's a blessing to be able to participate in that and hear God's word preached at a time when the message of his love is needed more than ever.  May you continue to be blessed with health and happiness!

Thanks for your comments... we do have a lot of things to be thankful for... even the things that aren't that much fun right now. I'm beginning to think that we should try to limit the amount of time that we spend, listening to the continuous repetative negative newscasts that create fear and even panic. There are so many great events created by 'neighbors helping neighbors' that we all can learn from.

Stay well... stay home! What's so bad about having to stay home? That's the least that we can do!

Thank you for your kind remarks... it makes me feel a bit like the 'Easter Bunny' who gave me curb-side service.

So pleased to read your comment ... and what a way to end your message. There are so many things that are available to us now, that make this "imposed isolation" much more tolerable.

Hello-- I spend time on commputer pretty much reading and answering email. Then on telephone with my grown children a lot. Then there is Facebook where members of the church I go to are. Only no churchservices in building. Our pastor has page on Facebook where thechurch has it's own page and he gives sermon's on Sunday. Then message friends who also go to that church and we talk about the wonderful sermons and what we are doing. ---I enjoy your blogs. Take care and have a bless day.

Love your blog.  I love grocery shopping on line.  I find my grocery bill has gone down.  I do not do the side track purchases that you do when you go to the store yourself.  I see something with a fancy display and I think... I'll try that.  When you shop on line you buy what you need, check on things you might wonder about and check out.  There is no long line, no paper or plastic... Usually within 3 days (sometimes a little more) everything is deposited at your front door.  It is wonderful.  Those big bundles of paper towel rolls and 50 pound bags of dog food are no longer a problem... I drag them across my threshold close the door.  I don't have to wrestle to get them in and out of the buggy either.  I am spoiled.  I know it.  I like being spoiled.

The world has forever changed.  Instead of trying to blow each other up we are trying to help each other and save one another.  Sacrifice, genuine kindness, and a willingness to do for others is the norm now.  The greatest commandment was that we should love one another as he has loved us.  He did not create this virus, man did.  No matter how much distruction man develops, God's love will always win.  Death comes from a word that means change.  It is not the end, I know, I have died several times.  We are all on a journey.  We have free will.  God loves each and everyone of his children.  He is there for us even when we do not believe in him.

I too have forgotten so many things about the computer.  I used to know so much and did not think about it... but it has been too long.  I really feel like I am trying to dust off the gray matter sometimes.  The Internet is a wonderful playground for everyone.  It can be dangerous but if one is careful and vigilant it can be very inlightening.  I have made so many wonderful cyber friends because of it.  I live alone but I am not alone.  Ain't it grand?

Great blog Mona. I also shop online for groceries. It helps with heavier items.

I never even thought about the heavier stuff... I've had no problem in asking for help if I've purchased something that I can't handle by myself. Right now, I appreciate the "extra mile" of service that is made available to us.
